» What is the business model? |
This refers to the new age model for the education industry: a model wherein online learning combines with the physical delivery model by creating Two sets of partnership all over the country One; Internet Access Centre for broadband connectivity all over the country and Second; Admission Centre (AC for short, in the traditional sense, he is known as the Channel Partner) is the Partner who will Counsel the students, take admission, collect fees and direct students to take course at the nearest Internet Access Centre (IAC), which is a designated Cyber Cafe.
♠
|
|
| » What is blended learning? |
In blended learning two or more methods of learning are delivered, i.e. either classroom-based training combined with any one or more methods of eLearning - such as self paced (self study of courseware as also studying from archived classrooms or ClassroomReplayT), asynchronous-meaning non-live or offline (i.e. discussion board, bill board etc), synchronous meaning Live (i.e. Live Virtual Classroom, mentoring sessions. live chat etc) and hands-on lab or simulations. Blended learning also refers to combining more than one methods of eLearning.
♠
|
|
» How will students learn? |
In our model, students go to the AC first to take Admission, pay fees and take the actual course online at the nearest approved Internet Access Centre or Cyber Café (IAC). The IAC is fully equipped with multimedia machines, good Internet connectivity and power back-up. The student mostly learns online, i.e. combining one or methods of eLearning as described earlier.

| » How is your teaching model different from the traditional learning model? |
Our Model |
Traditional Learning Model |
In our model, the student is in command whether be it self-paced studies, discussion board or ClassroomReplayT. Besides, tools like Virtual Classroom eliminate every bias which could otherwise work against the students' interest. Unlike the traditional Classroom-Led Training (CLT) model, our model enables students to attend classes more than once if necessary. Our model is also free of the erroneous presumption that all students can grasp a subject equally and within a single time frame. The possibilities of missed classes / lessons are fully eliminated, so that the student gets ample chance to catch up. |
Classes are scheduled by the administrator or dictated by the convenience of teacher. Once a student misses a class, his progress may lag even if he might be an intrinsically bright student. No second chance is available. Besides, for personal or personality reasons (fear of asking questions among co-students), most students' don't raise questions in the class! |

» Will this industry go bust like the IT training industry? |
Unfortunately, the IT training industry has lost out to Colleges offering degree in IT. The IT industry is looking for far more depth knowledge in the professionals which IT training industry could not deliver. However, remember, that the IT training is facing huge shortage of trained professionals and there is still a huge demand for high end courses and latest technology for professionals to upgrade their skills.
Now requirements for the BPO industry is NOT for engineers which are turned in thousands by these colleges, but for army of professionals who are good in English language, writing skills and other skills which are very particular to the industry. The current shortfall is huge and is growing. Burn rate which exceeds 40% is making life difficult for the BPO industry. The traditional college curriculum is not geared to churn professionals even in hundreds whereas the requirements are in lacs. It will be a good time (at least 3-4 or more years) before the traditional college system gears to this requirement. We at GOLS are proactive to offer courses which are in demand by the industry and make appropriate changes as and when required. Our model is scalable, robust, deliver required quality and quantity of manpower for the industry.
We at GOLS are aware of this as only thing that is constant is change. We are determined to stay relevant by offering products that makes sense for our end customers. Remember we are offering job oriented courses with Job placement facilities. Students' community shall love this facility!
Now your primary role is counseling, sales and marketing, and you will agree that sales and marketing shall never go out fashion! There will always be demand for industry relevant curriculum and job oriented education.
Besides, there is another angle, through eLearning we shall actually offer degree, diplomas courses in partnership with leading universities and educational institutions which shall provide you ample revue earning opportunities in times to come.
In conclusion, if we both work jointly for satisfying demand of the industry and students with contemporary and current courses, we both shall have ample business opportunities for many many years!

» What is the future of this industry? |
Oct 1, 2004
The Hindu Business Line
India will retain its edge in outsourcing despite stiff competition from other low-cost destinations, largely on account of growing influence and expertise of Indian diaspora, especially in the US and the UK , according to a report by Evalueserve and World Bank Institute.
According to the report, many Indian engineers who had started moving to the US in the 1960s had either become entrepreneurs, venture capitalists, or senior executives in large and medium-size companies by the 1990s. Many of these professionals started their own companies in India , while others convinced their companies to hire Indian IT professionals. |
"This provided more visibility to the Indian talent pool and resulted in the strengthening of the diaspora. For example, by late 1999, Indians constituted approximately 24 per cent of the IT professional population of Silicon Valley ," the report said. Riding the wave of the growing reputation in the IT sector, many well-placed senior executives in big corporations influenced outsourcing-related decisions in India 's favour, the report opined. |
The Evalueserve-World Bank Institute study estimates that the combined annual personal earnings of more than 20 million persons of Indian origin (PIOs) is about $364 billion; the gross domestic product of India (with a population of over one billion) is $550 billion.
The study also points out that Indians are beginning to be actively involved in the social and political scene. In 2000, the diaspora had four elected members of Parliament in the UK and 11 members in the House of Lords.
"Indian offshore vendors and various captive centres of global corporations are already moving up the value chain and performing more complex and value-added activities for their clients. Apart from providing the required capital (through investments), the Indian diaspora is expected to increasingly play a crucial role in the gradual emergence of India 's high-end knowledge services sector," it said. |
 |
The diaspora is expected to provide more organised platforms for the sharing of knowledge and best practices. It is also expected to increase the brand equity of the Indian industry but without giving a semblance of bias for their home country over other low-wage destinations.
Additionally, some Venture Capitalists in the US - particularly those of Indian origin - are actively funding Indian companies that have back-end operations in India , so that they can save on research and development costs. |
It is estimated that as on March 2004, over 150 start-ups in the US already have some form of back-end in India , and this number is likely to double by March 2006.
The Financial Times, July 8, 2004
The experience of a US call-centre veteran shows how foreigners at different career stages can join what have become the country's world-class industries
"If you can't beat them, join them," says Jim Shell from Fort Worth, Texas, who recently joined an Indian call center whose outsourcing deal with his former employer cost him his job. It was the third time in 10 years that Mr Shell, a two-decade veteran of the US call-centre industry, had lost his job to a cheaper outsourced offshore rival.
Yet Mr Shell's new job is not the typically senior management position that has traditionally been the only way for foreigners, notably Americans, to work in "difficult" India . Instead, he has accepted a mid-ranking post with WNS, a leading call center in Mumbai. His colleagues include other non-Indians from the US holding down more modest jobs. For these workers, India has emerged as an unexpected job market at a difficult time for employment in their home country.
India has rarely topped expatriates' league labels for sought-after overseas postings. It is regarded as poor, dirty and costly, and a country where the political and business environment can make for a challenging posting for international managers and their families.
But the rise of India 's information technology industry - from which politicians have stayed away - and the country's emerging appeal as a potential economic force, is fuelling a different perception. Many of the negative asides remain, of course, and in large measure may be accurate. The difference is that today there are innumerable opportunities for foreigners at all stages of career cycles to work in industries in India that are regarded as world - class.
IT, including its technology-based cousin the call center, is at the heart of this nascent trend. In Delhi at the back-office centers of Tecnovate eSolutions, the Indian call-centre arm of Ebookers, one of Europe 's leading online airline booking agencies, there is a sprinkling of young Europeans.
Many of these multi-lingual continental Europeans have typically taken a year off possibly a gap year before going on to university - to work in India on local wages. The experience is also exhilarating because young people gain the opportunity to "earn and play" in India , says Purnima Das, a headhunter in Mumbai. The receive shared accommodation as part of their package, the only concession to their overseas status.
Tecnovate eSolutions provides services in nine European languages and plans to raise recruitment of Europeans from 60 to 100, mostly at the lowest point of entry. That implies junior recruits working imposts such as customer agents - the person at the other end of the line in India - a strategy unlikely to damage Tecnovate's main commercial advantage of relatively low wages.
Although many of these European youngsters will move on after a year, their value will have already accrued to the company. At the same time, the recruitment of European linguists at Indian wages has allowed Tecnovate to roll out and ramp up a low cost service more quickly than if it had relied on the few Indians who happen to speak Dutch, Finnish or Swedish.
At the other end of the foreign labour spectrum are the business unit heads and consultants who have joined Indian companies - typically via mergers or acquisition. Infosys and Wipro, among India 's leading IT services companies, bot significantly raised their non-Indian staff pool after acquisitions in Australia and Europe . Nandan Nilekani, chief executive of Infosys, cities "cultural diversity as a strategic aim." Yet as Laxman Badiga, who heads recruitment at Wipro, says : "Most of these new staff remain overseas and though we attract attention abroad as an employer, we have yet to see the same [interest from foreigners] in India ."
Which makes the presence of people such as Mr Shell noteworthy. In terms of the labour market, he falls between the young transient workers at Ebookers and the overseas-based senior management at Wipro and Infosys.
Neeraj Bhargava, chief executive of WNS, the captive call center of British Airways that went independent after a management buy-out, says : "We have recruited a dozen [foreigners in India] and have many more applications in hand. This is something that will grow as non-Indians see that the reality of working in India in regular mid level jobs can be enriching in many ways."
Mr Shell's arrival in India could serve as a pointer to the way more foreigners end up on an Indian employee roll. He was operations manager at a leading insurer in Texas that outsourced a small volume of medical services to WNS in Pune, south of Mumbai. Seven months into the transition, Mr Shell learnt he would lose his job at the end of the handover. For the next five months, he trained the Indians who would be taking over.
"I'd lost two earlier jobs to outsourcing so the situation was not unusual. What was new was the way the transition was carried out, which was impressive from an operations position. Ultimately, that influenced my decision when WNS approached me," says Mr Shell.
Gaining the best possible introduction to WNS over the 12 month handover period helped address most of the questions about the culture of the company that inevitably arose as Mr Shell considered a job offer from a new employer in a new country.
Several factors have worked in Mr Shell's favour. He is single and mobile. He has been involved in call center start-ups in New Zealand and is sufficiently immersed in the telecommunications and call-centre industry - previous employers include Sprint, an energetic outsourcer - to realize that " India was where it was going". That helped remove a big mental block.
Mr Shell says he would like to continue with WNS when his current short-term contract expires; WNS's big new US clients, including Travelocity, an on-line airline booking agency, opens options in the US for WNS staff with experience at both ends of the call center chain.
Nor is Mr Shell alone. At another level of the WNS organization is Monica Melgar, who trains WNS's young Indian staff in Mumbai. Ms Melgar, originally from Mexico and formerly living in Chicago , is an experienced trainer. She quit her last job to "move away from the call center and maybe start my own business."
But a chance recommendation let to WNS and an offer that left her curious and intrigued. "I'd been exposed to India in so many ways without actually going to the country; it seemed right to take up the offer," she says.
Ms. Melgar, who has trained call-centre agents in the US , UK and Sweden adds that her experience in India has been "a trainer's delight" because Indians "take so much pride in call-centre work. The Americans hate it so it is hard to train someone who does not appreciate the work; the Swedes and Brits are too process-driven." ♠

GOLS charges license fees to cover various costs in developing and maintaining healthy partnership with you. Some of the costs are:

- Costs incurring towards design, development and manufacture of initial set of marketing collaterals (banners, brochures, glow sign base material, danglers, etc) which will be sent to you once you sign up the License agreement.
